Bulk slug generator: titles to URL slugs

Paste a list of page titles, one per line, and get a clean URL slug for each: lowercase, words joined with hyphens, punctuation removed. It runs in your browser, needs no sign-up, and exports the titles and slugs together as a CSV file.

How to use the slug generator

  1. 1

Paste your titles into the first box, one title per line.

  2. 2

Choose whether to keep non-Latin letters (see below), then convert. Each line of the result is the slug of the same line in your list.

  3. 3

Copy the slugs, or download a CSV file with every title next to its slug.

How titles become slugs

By default the tool lowercases the title, removes accents (é becomes e, ü becomes u), drops every character that isn't a–z, 0–9, a space or a hyphen, turns spaces into hyphens and removes repeated or trailing hyphens. "Best CRM Tools for Startups!" becomes best-crm-tools-for-startups. Letters without a plain a–z form are dropped too, so a title written entirely in Arabic, Russian, Chinese or Korean gives an empty slug. Turn on the option to keep non-Latin letters and the tool keeps letters and numbers of every script instead: "Сантехник в Москве" becomes сантехник-в-москве.

What makes a good slug

Short, readable slugs that contain the page's main words are the easiest to understand and share. Use the same pattern for every page in a set (for example /plumber-in-leeds and /plumber-in-york), leave out words that add nothing, and don't change a slug once the page is live unless you redirect the old URL to the new one.

Questions

Should I use non-Latin letters in URLs?

Both work. Browsers show Unicode slugs as written and search engines handle them, although a copied link may appear percent-encoded (%D1%81…). Latin slugs are shorter to share; slugs in your readers' script are easier for them to read. Pick one style and use it across the site.

Does the tool remove words like "the" or "for"?

No. It keeps every word, because removing words can change the meaning. Shorten the titles yourself if you want shorter slugs.

Why is one of my slugs empty?

The title had no letters or numbers the tool could keep, for example a title in a non-Latin script with the option switched off. Turn on the option to keep non-Latin letters, or write a Latin version of the title.

Is what I type stored anywhere?

No. The slugs are created in your browser, and your titles aren't sent to our server.
